Tara Harland Viney's latest collection of paintings are looking at our relationship to the natural world, through the lens of an immigrant female artist. The figures depicted in the paintings exist between states, reflecting the fluid and uncertain nature of human experience. Soft light, still waters, golden trees and symbolic birds provide clues as to the narrative unfolding.

Drawing upon the classical poses of Renaissance art, having escaped the clutches of the male protagonist, the women are creating their own stories. The singular human figure suggests an internal psychological space, free from interlopers, and in communion with elemental forces.
They navigate an environment that is neither fully separate from them nor entirely theirs, embodying the in-between nature of human existence.
