Susannah is a land inspired artist living near the coast in North Somerset. Using natural earth, mineral and botanical pigments her aim is to evoke the timeless geology at the water's edge. The view across the Severn Estuary, the rock formations along the coast, the pebbles at her feet and the markings within them are her inspiration. Becoming a more ecologically aware artist, using locally sourced sustainable materials, as much as she can, has become an essential part of her practice.
Working mindfully and often intuitively, marking the seasonal turn of the year, allows for a deeper connection to the land. Walking, observing, gathering earth, sieving earth, making paint and then painting, inspired by that same landscape, is a grounding, cyclical process. Susannah’s deep connection to her locally foraged pigments is at the heart of her work.
Susannah has exhibited across the region and has work in collections both locally and internationally.
