Paintings

Susannah is a land inspired artist living near the coast in North Somerset. She works with natural earth, mineral and botanical pigments that she forages mainly in the south west region of England. The inspirations for her paintings are the ever changing view across the Severn Estuary, the rock formations along the coast, the pebbles at her feet and the markings within them. She employs a layered build up of colour and texture to suggest the passage of time within the rocky landscape. Becoming a more ecologically aware artist, using locally sourced sustainable materials, has become an essential part of her practice.

Walking, observing, gathering earth, sieving earth, making paint and then painting, inspired by that same landscape, is a grounding, cyclical process. Susannah’s deep connection to her locally foraged pigments is at the heart of her work.

Susannah has exhibited across the region and has work in collections both locally and internationally.
