Robert Sargent is an artist and architect whose paintings explore the character, memory and atmosphere of place. His work is rooted in a close relationship with the landscape of the South West, drawing on walking, cycling and time spent outdoors to observe how land, weather, buildings and human activity come together.

His paintings sit between landscape and abstraction, using colour, texture and simplified form to capture the essence of a place rather than simply reproduce it. His series include Salt Path, inspired by the South West Coast Path; Mendip Magic, exploring the Mendip Hills; Headland, focused on the English coast; and Life of Trees, a study of weathered trees and their relationship with the landscape.
His developing work turns towards buildings within the landscape, particularly the distinctive villages, farms and coastal settlements of Devon and Cornwall.
