"Crisp, colourful and contemporary" is how Nancy describes her still life. The vibrant colours and rich textures are tempered by Nancy’s minimalist precision which, when paired with her signature white St Ives framing, provide artworks that work well in modern and traditional settings.
Nancy is clearly not interested in telling the viewer a story with a beginning, middle and end. Instead, she sets up her minimalist compositions with clarity, to give just enough information for us to full in our own blanks.
She says ‘When I look hard at subjects like a piece of fruit or vase of flowers – really study it, the subjects can gain characters and personalities and I develop a relationship with them and between them.’
The ability to see something beyond what’s in front of you is a skill Nancy has honed and she invites us to do the same. It takes a keen eye to see the extraordinary in the ordinary.
