Maita says “as an artist, I love the idea of creativity that honours the effects of time and makes mischief with history. Growing up in a society where hard cold and shiny are often highly valued, I find myself gravitating toward the opposite. I love smoky patina and shadowy surfaces. In my work I use a variety of mixed media and collage techniques, recycled and re-purposed materials plus original ephemera to tell stories and create narratives which show a world that was never quite but could have been”. Each of her pieces is uniquely handcrafted and there may be a message or idea which may (or may not) reflect the state of our world today.
Elsewhere in her life Maita is also an award-winning soprano specialising in art song performance and, having developed the horse riding skills she acquired over many years as an equestrian competitor, she is also a dressage judge.
