Having been a tutor for 20 years, I am now semi-retired and focussing on my portraits. I love to capture moments that invite questions regarding the subject, but also to tell a story if I know it. So often we see a portrait, a name and the medium it was painted in- I want to know more and tell you more about the character and history of the person. I reduce the background so the character is the only focus. I use the Zorn Palette (red, yellow ochre, black and white), with the occasional blue and enjoy showing form through colours, tones and mark-making.
